The Texans' running backs have not been able to stay healthy this preseason. First, they lost rookie Ben Tate for the year with an ankle injury, and RBs Steve Slaton and Jeremiah Johnson have suffered from toe injuries.
To add depth behind starter Arian Foster, PFW's Texans correspondent John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Texans will sign former Buccaneers RB Derrick Ward.
Ward averaged only 3.9 yards per carry in 2009 after signing a big contract with the Buccaneers. Bucs head coach Raheem Morris called out the seven-year veteran last week for being overweight prior to his release.
Ward ran for 1,025 yards in 2008 with the Giants.
