The Saints placed veteran FS Darren Sharper on the physically-unable-to-perform list on Friday, according to Brian Allee-Walsh of NewOrleans.com.
Sharper is recovering from offseason microfracture knee surgery and will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season.
The future Hall of Famer and five-time Pro Bowler started 14 games last season and led the NFL with nine interceptions, returning three of them for touchdowns. Sharper, a 14-year veteran, was an absolute force in the Super Bowl-champion Saints' secondary.
Malcolm Jenkins is likely to start in Sharper's place to open the season.
