The emergence of Miles Austin and the selection of Dez Bryant in April's draft left limited playing time for WR Patrick Crayton in Dallas. On Friday, the Cowboys traded Crayton to the Chargers for a 2011 seventh-round draft choice, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Crayton has caught 196 passes during his six-year career, all with Dallas. His best season came in 2007, when he set career highs with 50 receptions, 697 yards and seven touchdowns. The latest Dallas depth chart had him listed as a backup to Austin.

San Diego is in need of receiving depth, as their top target from 2009, Vincent Jackson, is holding out for a new contract. Crayton likely will back up starting WRs Malcom Floyd and Legedu Naanee. The Chargers' first game is Sept. 13 at Kansas City.
