Significant changes

— Aaron Rodgers moves into the top spot ahead of Peyton Manning. The safer play is Manning, but Rodgers has looked sensational in the preseason and looks capable of putting up outrageous numbers. He's also getting rid of the ball more quickly than he did last season, which bodes well for his health.

— Philip Rivers falls two spots to No. 8, thanks to the stalemates between the Chargers and two of Rivers' key supporting players, WR Vincent Jackson and OLT Marcus McNeill. It's asking a lot of a franchise quarterback to perform like a franchise quarterback without his best receiver and his respected blind-side protector.

Significant changes

— Jahvid Best is my big mover, climbing all the way to No. 11. This kid looks like the real thing. Roster him with confidence.

— Shonn Greene drops two spots to No. 12, based largely on the surprising friskiness that LaDainian Tomlinson has shown in the preseason. Tomlinson, who looks like he'll play a significant role in the Jets' offense (or at least more significant than I'd initially envisioned), moves up to No. 41.

— Bothered by nagging injuries last season, Matt Forté is showing his rookie form again, and it's now clear that he'll take a lot more snaps than Chester Taylor once the regular season begins. Forté will rack up yardage; the only question is his TD potential. I'm bullish, and I'm vaulting him all the way up to No. 15.

— With rookie Ben Tate out for the year and Steve Slaton battling a toe injury, Arian Foster moves into the top 20, settling at No. 19. Foster has shown in the preseason that he's capable of being a leading man.

— I'm nervous about Jonathan Stewart's slow-healing Achilles injury, so I'm dropping him to No. 21 and advising that you let someone else in your league worry about his health this season. DeAngelo Williams was already a top-10 running back on my board and doesn't move up any further, but let's just say that his current ranking seems like slightly less of a stretch than it did two weeks ago.

— Beanie Wells drops to No. 26, and I won't have him on any of my teams. With the Cardinals' QB situation so shaky, this probably won't be the year that Wells takes the big step up that some are anticipating. And let's not forget that the underrated Tim Hightower is still very much in the picture.

— Reggie Bush was ranked way too low on my last board. In fact, it's not inconceivable that he could outperform teammate Pierre Thomas this year. I've moved Bush from No. 40 to No. 27.

— Kareem Huggins is one of my favorite sleepers. I have him at No. 45. He has big-play speed and could become a stud if anything happens to the oft-injured Cadillac Williams, especially now that Derrick Ward has been cut.

* — Dexter McCluster is listed as a wide receiver, not a running back, by the Chiefs and NFL.com. Ask your league commissioner for a ruling as to his position.

Significant changes

— I realize it's only the preseason, but Mike Wallace keeps making one big play after another. I love the guy, and I'm moving him from No. 20 to No. 17, ahead of elder-statesman teammate Hines Ward.

— With Sidney Rice expected to miss at least half of the regular season with a hip injury, Bernard Berrian's fantasy value gets a jolt of life. Rice falls to No. 62, and Berrian moves up to No. 41. The Vikings traded for Greg Camarillo, who could be surprisingly productive. Camarillo is at No. 73 on the board, and former Brett Favre cohort Javon Walker, another recent acquisition for Minnesota, joins the rankings (just barely) at No. 101.

— Buccaneers rookie Mike Williams looks like a potential star. I have him at No. 34, but don't feel obligated to grab him that early in your draft; it's unlikely that any of your competitors have him rated as a top-50 receiver.

— It's hard to sort out the Seattle receivers. Deion Branch figures to be one starter, but his fantasy prospects are uninspiring. Golden Tate has upside, but because he's done little to excite thus far, I'm scaling back expectations and dropping him way down to No. 81. I don't see him having much of an impact this season. A guy who might be worth taking late in larger leagues is Mike Williams (yes, another guy named Mike Williams), the former USC star plucked off the scrap heap by his former college coach, Pete Carroll. With the release of T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Williams becomes a likely starter and thus moves up to No. 50.

TIGHT ENDS

  1. Antonio Gates, Chargers
  2. Jermichael Finley, Packers
  3. Dallas Clark, Colts
  4. Vernon Davis, 49ers

Significant changes

— Chris Cooley moves from No. 13 to No. 8. On the earlier draft boards, I had hedged on Cooley, waiting to see how he looked in his return from an ankle injury. He's looked sharp in the preseason, and Donovan McNabb appears to love throwing to him.

— I like both of the Patriots' rookie tight ends, Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Finally, the Pats appear to have tight ends with the receiving skills to open up new avenues in the passing game. Gronkowski was drafted higher, but I think Hernandez will end up posting the better receiving numbers. I've moved Hernandez up to No. 22.
