Carolina placed WR Wallace Wright on injured reserve, one of several roster moves the team made on Tuesday.
Wright, who came over to the Panthers via free agency after spending his first four professional seasons with the Jets, was expected to make the final roster after excelling on special teams in training camp. However, he suffered a shoulder injury on Saturday during Carolina's third preseason game.
"(Wright) was a guy we were counting on pretty heavily both at the receiver position and in the kicking game," head coach John Fox said.
Linebacker Thomas Davis, who tore his ACL during non-contract drills in June, was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list, meaning he is not eligible to play until Week Seven. The team also placed DE Hilee Taylor on I.R. and released WRs Dexter Jackson and Oliver Young, cutting their roster to the league-mandated 75 players.
