The Giants may be on the hunt for an insurance option behind QB Eli Manning after placing backup QB Jim Sorgi on injured reserve Tuesday morning.
Sorgi suffered an injury to his right, throwing shoulder in the Giants' first preseason game against the Jets. The seven-year veteran spent the last six seasons backing up Colts QB Peyton Manning.
QB Rhett Bomar, a second-year player out of Sam Houston State, is Manning's backup, with Dominic Randolph as the third-string QB. Neither has attempted a pass in a regular-season game.
The Giants also placed veteran WR Sinorice Moss on injured reserve. He underwent surgery Tuesday morning to repair a sports hernia. Moss was competing for a roster spot as a receiver and return man. He has 39 career receptions for 421 yards and three touchdowns.
The Giants made three other moves in cutting the roster to 75. Rookie LB Adrian Tracy was placed on I.R., OL Kevin Boothe was added to the physically-unable-to-perform list and rookie WR Nyan Boateng was released.
