The Dolphins placed OT Nate Garner on injured reserve Tuesday, ending the season of their versatile backup.
Garner underwent surgery two weeks ago on the same left foot that was operated on in the offseason. At the time, Garner was expected to miss only 4-6 weeks.
The four-year veteran started eight games at guard in 2009 and was the backup to ORT Vernon Carey during training camp. With questions on the interior offensive line for the Dolphins, Carey provided a valuable, experienced backup.
The Dolphins also placed DE Phillip Merling on the reserve/non-football injury list. Merling tore his Achilles tendon while training on his own in the offseason.
