Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio has denied that star RB Maurice Jones-Drew had undergone knee surgery recently.
Del Rio was responding to a report by the National Football Post that said Jones-Drew had undergone arthroscopic surgery on his knee as a result of lingering meniscus issues.
"No," Del Rio said when asked about the report. "No, has not happened, is not necessary. He's working, rehabbing, strengthening and gearing up for the regular season."
Jones-Drew has only six carries for minus-two yards this preseason, and he won't play in the final exhibition Thursday against Atlanta.
Del Rio explained that, ideally, he would have liked Jones-Drew to have gotten more work in preseason games but that he didn't want to take any chances that his star back wouldn't be 100 percent for the start of the regular season.
