Although we know not to read too much into the Colts' performance during the preseason, there were several areas of concern following their "dress rehearsal" blowout loss to the Packers. Five starters left the game early with injuries, and turnovers and penalties continued to be a disturbing trend. Additionally, head coach Jim Caldwell was not pleased with the enforcement of the NFL's new rule that requires the umpire to be in the offensive backfield before the ball is snapped. Caldwell said following the game that the offense ran the exact same way against the Packers that it did in the first two preseason games, but QB Peyton Manning was penalized twice for illegal snaps in Green Bay. "The crazy part about the rule is that it's going to depend on what crew you get; some will be better in enforcing it than others," said a source close to the team.
