Lions' secondary becoming a primary concern

The Lions' best defensive back, FS Louis Delmas, has battled a groin injury and hasn't played much this preseason. He hopes to be ready to go by Week One, and the coaching staff believes he will be. But with cornerback proving to be a weakness to date, the Lions need as much help at safety as they can get. A talented, aggressive front four will help, but only so much. Undrafted rookie Randy Phillips has been a revelation, and he has done a respectable job replacing Delmas, but it's believed that the team will explore all options to upgrade the SS spot. Right now, C.C. Brown and Ko Simpson are splitting duty there, but the Lions have closely monitored the Chiefs' Jarrad Page, who has requested a trade. The Chiefs are said to be asking a bit much in return and they could end up cutting him when rosters are reduced.
