The Lions placed veteran DE Jared DeVries on the injured reserve list on Friday, ending his 2010 season. DeVries had been battling issues with his knee since the beginning of training camp and underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday to clean up loose cartilage.
The 12-year veteran did not play in 2009 after rupturing his Achilles tendon. He started 29 games from 2006-08 at defensive end for the Lions. DeVries registered 6½ sacks in ’07. Fortunately, the Lions have some depth at defensive end after trading for former Seahawks first-round draft pick Lawrence Jackson.
The Lions also waived/injured S David Roach and signed DT Jaron Baston and S John Wendling.
