There were some concerns about Panthers DE Everette Brown during training camp when DE Greg Hardy, a sixth-round pick, was taking snaps with the first-team defense ahead of Brown, but Brown has restored some optimism about his future with his play recently. He made two sacks in Carolina's second preseason game and observers say he has looked better in practice of late. Expectations have been high for Brown since the Panthers traded a first-round pick to move up in the second round and draft him in 2009. He bulked up this offseason in order to be more of a force against the run, but he's expected to continue in a role similar to the one he played last season. Brown is still considered a pass-rush specialist, although he most likely will play more frequently on early downs than he did as a rookie. Charles Johnson and Tyler Brayton, who has missed time with an ankle injury, are the starters at defensive end.
