One day after being claimed off waivers by the Panthers, OT Kirk Barton has decided he will not report to Carolina. Head coach John Fox said Thursday that he believes Barton has decided to retire.

Barton, a seventh-round pick in 2008 by the Bears, has played in only one NFL game. Barton was waived by the Broncos last week and has spent time with the 49ers, Dolphins, Bengals and Lions.

Barton was a first-team All-American at Ohio State. The Panthers had waived reserve OT Jason Capizzi to make room for Barton as they looked for O-line help after allowing 11 sacks in two preseason games.
