Matt Leinart has lost his preseason starting job as the Cardinals look for better offensive production. In a move he stressed is not permanent, head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced that QB Derek Anderson will start Saturday against the Bears. Whisenhunt plans to have Leinart finish the second quarter and start the second half.
Arizona Republic beat writer and PFW correspondent Kent Somers reported that Whisenhunt wants to see how both quarterbacks handle different roles. But starting Anderson in the team's third preseason game, which normally provides the first real indication of what starting units will be like on both sides of the ball, is an indication that Leinart, who had lost the Cardinals' starting QB job previously in the preseason, once again could be on thin ice.
In a 24-10 loss to the Titans on Monday night, Leinart was 4-for-6 passing for 26 yards. Anderson, on the other hand, completed 11-of-19 passes for 105 yards. Both passers have been very inconsistent.
