The Saints released LB Troy Evans, who had been with the team since 2007, and waived four other players Tuesday.
Evans, a ninth-year veteran, had served as the team's special-teams captain for the past two seasons. He started two games in ’09 and made a career-high 29 tackles.
"Decisions like these are never easy to make," Saints GM Mickey Loomis said. "Troy Evans was an instrumental part of the Saints' Super Bowl XLIV Championship in 2009 and we are truly thankful for his hard work and dedication. We know that the fans of our team will be grateful for Troy's contributions and the way he contributed to our success both on and off the football field."
New Orleans waived WRs Rod Harper and Mark Bradley, OG Tim Duckworth and CB Danny Gorrer.
