PFW correspondent and Minnesota Star-Tribune writer Judd Zulgad confirmed this morning that Vikings WR Sidney Rice underwent hip surgery at a clinic in Colorado on Monday. Rice is expected to miss the first half of the season.

Rice first injured the hip in the NFC championship game against the Saints, and two hip specialists this offseason recommended surgery, but Rice decided not to have the procedure earlier.

One week after QB Brett Favre returned to Minnesota, the Vikings are hurting at wideout. Percy Harvin, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, has suffered from severe migraines during the offseason, including one episode that sent him to the hospital last week.

Favre should get help soon from an ex-teammate, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Vikings are expected to sign former Packers WR Javon Walker.
