The Buccaneers added QB insurance Tuesday by re-signing Jevan Snead. Tampa Bay initially signed Snead on April 26 but released him on July 31.

Starting QB Josh Freeman will miss the rest of the preseason after breaking the tip of his thumb on his throwing hand Saturday against Kansas City. He is expected to return for the Bucs' season opener against Cleveland.

Snead, an undrafted rookie out of Mississippi, will back up Josh Johnson and Rudy Carpenter in Saturday's game against Jacksonville.
