The Jets are close to signing C Nick Mangold to a contract extension, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

While terms have not been finalized, Mangold's deal is expected to surpass that of C Jason Brown, who signed a five-year, $37.5 million pact (including $20 million guaranteed) with the Rams last year. Such a deal would make Mangold, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, the highest-paid center in the league.

Mangold, 26, has started all 64 games since being a first-round pick in 2006 and has made the Pro Bowl in each of the past two seasons. Earlier this offseason, the Jets rewarded another '06 first-rounder, OLT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, with an extension of his own.

Reports also surfaced Sunday that the team could be close to agreeing to a new contract with disgruntled CB Darrelle Revis, but such claims were quickly disputed. Revis, also a two-time Pro Bowler, continues to be a holdout.
