The Chargers have officially placed WR Vincent Jackson and OLT Marcus McNeill on the roster exempt list, which will result in a three-game suspension for both players upon signing a contract, according to the North County Times.

Jackson and McNeill, both restricted free agents who have refused to sign their one-year tenders, were reportedly sent letters last week notifying them that they would be placed on the list. Each player has threatened to sit out most or all of the 2010 season if he does not receive a long-term contract.

The Seahawks have been granted permission to discuss contract terms with Jackson, but no deal appears imminent. Not only would Seattle have to give Jackson a lucrative extension, but they would also have to provide the Chargers with at least one early draft pick in a trade. The club doesn't seem willing to make that commitment at this point.

Jackson, who already has been suspended three games by the league for receiving two DUI convictions, would be able to serve his new suspension concurrently as long as he signs a contract by Sept. 4. This could give the Seahawks or other teams interested in the wideout added incentive to get him signed in the next two weeks.

McNeill, meanwhile, met with the Chargers last week but did not make serious progress in securing a long-term deal. He is not on the trading block right now.
