Vincent Jackson could be playing sooner than we thought, but not for the Chargers.
According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, the Chargers have granted the Seahawks permission to discuss contract terms with Jackson. The wide receiver has been holding out since he refused to sign a one-year tender of $3.268 million by June 15.
The Chargers and Jackson have not been able to agree on a long-term contract, and Jackson's off-the-field issues haven't helped the cause. He is facing a three-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
The Seahawks traded for 49ers DL Kentwan Balmer last week when Balmer refused to show up for 49ers camp.
Jackson had 68 catches for 1,167 yards and nine touchdowns in 2009. The Seahawks did not have a receiver break 1,000 yards receiving last season. They were led by T.J. Houshmandzadeh's 911 yards.
