Raiders third-string QB Charlie Frye has been placed on injured reserve with a ligament issue in his right wrist. Head coach Tom Cable said it will take 4-5 months for Frye to rehab the injury.

Frye started the last three games of the season in 2009 for Oakland and was 53-for-87 passing for 581 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions. Frye, a sixth-year veteran, has started five games over the past three seasons.

With Frye out of the picture, it apparently clears the way for Bruce Gradkowski and Kyle Boller to be starter Jason Campbell's backups this season.

The Raiders signed TE Eric Butler to take Frye's place on the roster.
