The Bears signed QB Matt Gutierrez to a one-year contract and DB Aaron Webster to a two-year contract on Wednesday. Gutierrez has been a backup for the Patriots and most recently the Chiefs in his NFL career.
With backup QB Caleb Hanie out for Saturday's preseason game against the Raiders, the Bears needed another quarterback behind Jay Cutler besides rookie QB Dan LeFevour. Hanie sprained his shoulder against the Chargers on Saturday and should return in a few weeks.
Veteran QBs Todd Collins, Josh McCown, Trent Green and Damon Huard all reportedly have turned down offers from the Bears. Gutierrez has attempted two passes in three NFL seasons.
Webster was originally signed by the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati.
