The 49ers announced Wednesday that they have released sixth-year veteran WR Brandon Jones, who never lived up to expectations after signing with the team as a free agent early last offseason. The team also waived/injured OT Chris Patrick.
Jones, who had his share of injury issues with the Niners, signed with the club on Feb. 28, 2009. He appeared in eight games last season, registering only one catch for 18 yards. His most productive season was as a member of the Titans in 2008, when he had 41 catches for 449 yards and one touchdown.

Jones’ release would appear to increase the likelihood that fellow backup WRs Jason Hill and Dominique Zeigler will make the final roster. Patrick was signed off the Chiefs' practice squad on Oct. 28, 2009 and appeared in three games last season.
