The 49ers' tumultuous offseason continues. The Sacramento Bee is reporting that the 49ers not only will trade disgruntled DL Kentwan Balmer, but they are keeping him in the NFC West, shipping him to Seattle. Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reports the 49ers will receive a sixth-round pick in exchange for Balmer.

Balmer was a first-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2008, and former 49ers GM Scot McCloughan, who drafted Balmer in '08, is now with Seattle's front office. Balmer played 27 games without a start in two seasons and had been AWOL from training camp, an unexcused absence.

Balmer has been a major disappointment in San Francisco. The 49ers put him on the trading block and the Seahawks were hurting for a defensive end. He may fit better at end than he did at defensive tackle in San Francisco. Balmer will join other veterans signed by the Seahawks this offseason, including QB Charlie Whitehurst, RB-RS Leon Washington and DE Chris Clemons.

Last Friday, RB Glen Coffee shockingly told the 49ers he was retiring from football. Coffee was battling for the No. 2 RB job behind Frank Gore.
