The Vikings have been granted a roster exemption for WR Percy Harvin, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Friday. The 2009 Offensive Rookie of the Year will go onto the active/left-squad list.
Harvin left Minnesota's training camp on July 31 after the death of his grandmother and has been absent since, battling the migraine headaches that caused him to miss a game last season.
The Vikings sent Harvin a five-day letter, which indicates that in five days the team has the option but not the obligation to place him on the reserve/left-squad list, which would make him ineligible to play this season. Head coach Brad Childress explained that the letter had to be sent in order for the Vikings to qualify for the roster exemption but that the team is "supportive" of Harvin.
