Word from Baltimore is Ravens FS Tom Zbikowski has played well in training camp, and that carried over to the preseason opener, where the third-year pro from Notre Dame made an impact both on defense and special teams in a 17-12 win vs. Carolina. Zbikowski, who started in place of Ed Reed, who is on the PUP list with a hip injury, sacked Panthers QB Matt Moore on a well-timed blitz on Carolina's first offensive series, closing quickly, hitting Moore at about shoulder level and forcing a fumble. On the next play, Zbikowski returned a punt 28 yards. Whether Reed will be ready for Week One is anyone's guess, but it appears Zbikowski would be his replacement if he is not ready for the opener at the Jets. Ex-Cowboys FS Ken Hamlin, whom the Ravens signed in June, came off the bench against Carolina, notching one tackle and one quarterback hit. Hamlin also got work on special teams.
