With no guarantees that veteran free-agent addition Joey Porter can go full tilt the entire season at right outside linebacker at the age of 33, the Cardinals would love for one of the team's younger outside 'backers to step up and make an impact. Our sources in the desert tell us second-year OLB Cody Brown, a second-round pick in 2009 who suffered a season-ending left wrist injury in training camp last year, just might fill the bill. "(Head coach Ken) Whisenhunt has liked what he's seen (of Brown), no doubt about it," said one team insider. "He has shown a lot of athletic ability." As for Porter, who appears to be in excellent shape, we're told the team is being careful not to overwork him. "He's playing a little leaner and looks solid, although (new OLT) Levi Brown has done well against him in pass-protection drills," the insider said. "Off the field, he has fit in well and become friends with a lot of the guys."
