The Bears placed RB Harvey Unga on injured reserve today. Unga, who was selected in the seventh round of this year’s supplemental draft, will count against the Bears’ 80-man roster until the team is required to cut down the roster to 75 players on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
Unga, who was BYU's all-time leading rusher, appeared to be in the running for a backup job behind Bears RBs Matt Forté and Chester Taylor as a short-yardage specialist before suffering what has turned out to be a season-ending hamstring injury. He had signed a four-year contract six days after he was drafted earlier this summer.
