The Cowboys suffered their first major injury of the preseason, losing TE John Phillips to a torn ACL that he suffered in Sunday night's Hall of Fame game.

Phillips, who had been having an excellent training camp, tore the knee ligament during a four-catch, 60-yard performance in the Cowboys' win over the Bengals in Canton., Ohio. An MRI test confirmed the tear Monday morning.

Although Phillips is the Cowboys' third-string tight end behind Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett, Phillips played a significant role as a rookie and was making a push for more playing time this season prior to getting hurt.

The team's depth at tight end suddenly is a concern. Bennett missed Sunday's game with an ankle injury, and Phillips' replacement, Kevin Brock, also left the game hurt, suffering an ankle injury. The only other tight end on the roster is Scott Sicko, an undrafted free agent.
