The Cardinals had a busy Tuesday on the transactions front, signing LB Pago Togafau and S Aaron Rouse, among other moves. In addition, the team waived/injured DE Dean Muhtadi (calf) and released LB Ali Highsmith and WR Deryn Bowser.
The 5-11, 240-pound Togafau appeared in two games and had three tackles on defense and three special-teams tackles with the Cardinals last season after spending four weeks on the practice squad. He originally signed with Arizona as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2007 out of Idaho State. He was released by the Cardinals in training camp in ’07 and was claimed by the Eagles, where he appeared in seven games and collected nine tackles on special teams.
Togafau re-signed with the Cardinals in ’08 and appeared in six regular-season games, collecting five tackles and 11 special-teams tackles while also playing in all four postseason contests. He signed with the Titans this past offseason but was released on July 31.
The 6-4, 227-pound Rouse played in 14 games with eight starts last season for the Giants and collected 60 tackles (42 solo), one interception and four passes defensed. He was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Sept. 24, 2009, after playing his first two seasons with the Packers.
Rouse was originally selected by the Packers in the third round (89th overall) of the ’07 NFL draft out of Virginia Tech. For his career, Rouse has played in 41 games (18 starts) and has 174 tackles (123 solo) with four interceptions, seven passes defensed and one touchdown. He was released by the Giants on March 6.
