The Seahawks joined the first-round signing brigade late Saturday, nailing down a five-year deal with Texas S Earl Thomas, who is expected to start immediately at free safety. Both and reported that Thomas’ deal was worth up to $21.1 million, with $12.31 million guaranteed.

The Seahawks, who are expected to also have fellow first-round draft pick Russell Okung signed perhaps before the weekend is over, have been extremely impressed so far this offseason with Thomas, who has quickly demonstrated a playmaking flair that is badly needed in the Seattle secondary.

In PFW's 2010 Draft Preview, draft expert Nolan Nawrocki wrote that Thomas “has a rare blend of instincts, savvy, athletic ability and playmaking ability. He is still growing into his body but has an advanced understanding of the game.”
