The Cardinals have announced the signing of second-round ILB Daryl Washington to a four-year contract, leaving first-round DT Dan Williams as the only unsigned drafted rookie on the team. Terms of Washington’s contract were not disclosed.
To make room on the roster for Washington, the Cardinals have released FB Reagan Maui’a.
Washington, a 6-3, 234-pounder out of TCU, is one of the primary candidates to replace the departed Karlos Dansby, the Cardinals’ leading tackler last season, at right inside linebacker. Washington was named a first-team All-American and earned All-Mountain West Conference honors as a senior in 2009 after leading the Horned Frogs with a career-high 109 tackles (68 solo) to go along with three interceptions, two sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
In PFW's 2010 Draft Preview, personnel analyst Nolan Nawrocki wrote that Washington was a “lean, long-armed, active playmaker with exceptional movement skills.”
