Broncos OLB Elvis Dumervil led the league in sacks (17) last season, made the Pro Bowl and was rewarded on July 22 with a contract extension that will pay him $43.156 million guaranteed over the next six seasons. He told PFW he still believes he has something to prove, though, in a July 30 interview. "I felt like I should have been the first defensive end drafted (in 2006)," said Dumervil, who was drafted in the fourth round. "Until I stop playing football, until I hang up my cleats, I'm going to always feel like I have to prove to people that I (should have been the first defensive end selected). ... It still bothers me. That's what fuels me. Until everybody who got drafted with me retires, I'll have a lot to prove." While pass rushing is clearly his strength, Dumervil said two of his goals this season are to play the run better and improve in coverage.
