Sources didn't expect GM Mark Dominik to change his tune and cave in to Bucs OLT Donald Penn's demands for a long-term contract in part because of the friction it could cause amongst other key players who want new contracts. Dominik did just that, however, signing Penn to a six-year, $48 million deal. Penn put off signing his restricted free-agent tender and did not attend voluntary OTAs or mandatory minicamp. Those moves paid off, as the Bucs didn't have any other decent options to replace him at left tackle. Other core players, including Barrett Ruud, RB Cadillac Williams and ORT Jeremy Trueblood, are playing on one-year tenders and would like new deals, but Dominik, per reports, has said he wants "to see some football before we do anything else." Head coach Raheem Morris was dispatched to speak with the Bucs' RFAs to explain the decision on Penn's deal.
