The high ankle sprain suffered by WR Dez Bryant in the first week of camp was a big blow for the first-round pick, who was off to a great start. This almost certainly eliminates the possibility of Bryant winning a starting job outright and puts the start of his season in jeopardy, as it is considered a 4-6-week injury. If the Cowboys can get Bryant back for some work prior to the regular season, they'd be very happy, but they won't rush him back. Roy Williams almost certainly will retain his starting job on the outside, but that doesn't mean Bryant won't figure in heavily as the third receiver, with Miles Austin sliding into the slot in three- and four-WR formations. Our sources say the club is glad it dug in its heels and refused to trade Patrick Crayton, who said he wanted to play elsewhere. Having Crayton allows the Cowboys to get Bryant back into the lineup at the proper pace.
