Broncos OLB Elvis Dumervil got the long-term contract extension he was seeking. The NFL sack leader agreed to a long-term deal late Thursday.

Dumervil's extension covers six years and will pay him $61.5 million, of which $41-$43 million is guaranteed, according to ESPN.com.

An All-Pro selection who started in the Pro Bowl, Dumervil had a team-record 17 sacks last season. His 43 sacks over the past four years rank third in the NFL over that period. Eleven of his sacks came on third downs, tying for the most in the NFL during a season since at least 1991. He has a league-high 27½ sacks on third downs since 2006.

Dumervil signed his one-year, $3.168 million restricted free-agent tender June 14, but he had hoped all along that he would be rewarded with a long-term pact.
