The Bears signed rookie RB Harvey Unga to a four-year contract Wednesday six days after he was selected in the seventh round of this year’s NFL supplemental draft. The terms of Unga’s deal were not disclosed.

In addition to announcing Unga’s signing, the Bears released DT Jimmy Saddler-McQueen and WR Vic Hall.

Unga, who was Brigham Young’s all-time leading rusher with 3,455 rushing yards on 696 carries (5.0 yards per carry), is expected to compete for a backup RB roster spot behind Matt Forté and Chester Taylor along with holdovers Garrett Wolfe and Kahlil Bell, presumably as a short-yardage specialist. Unga also could be considered in the mix at fullback along with Eddie Williams and Will Ta’ufo’ou.

Unga added 102 career receptions for 1,085 yards in 41 games in four seasons (2006-09) for BYU. He totaled 45 career touchdowns (36 rushing and nine receiving).

Saddler-McQueen and Hall were undrafted free agents out of Texas A&M-Kingsville and Virginia, respectively.
