Dolphins NT Jason Ferguson, a 13-year veteran, has decided to retire, the team announced Thursday.

Miami was expecting to have Ferguson for the second half of the season after he served an eight-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

"You get what you put into this game," Ferguson said, according to the team's Website. "I would like to thank my family, the fans and the organizations that I have been a part of for their continued support throughout my career, it’s been an absolute blessing to play this long. I have built a lot of relationships, you develop an extended family playing this game; I would like to thank that extended family, the teammates, the coaches, the support staffs that have all played a part of a great ride."

Ferguson began his career with the Jets and spent eight seasons in New York before joining the Cowboys in 2005. He signed with the Dolphins in 2008. The 35-year-old made 325 tackles and 21½ sacks in his career.
