Nose tackle should be Bolts' top camp battle

Following the release of veteran Ian Scott, the Chargers will stage a full-fledged battle for the starting NT spot, one that we hear will be the best of camp. Although he's barely accumulated any stats during his career, which began in 2003, Antonio Garay is the early favorite because of his experience. The 30-year-old knows the system after spending last season in San Diego, and he's the right size for the position at 6-4 and 320 pounds. He's expected to get a strong fight from rookie Cam Thomas, however. As the team's future at nose tackle, the Bolts are hoping to see the North Carolina product have a standout camp and wrest away the job, but it remains to be seen how pro-ready he is. Ogemdi Nwagbuo, who started five games in '09, also is in the picture, but he played poorly down the stretch and is a bit undersized for the nose. He'll likely be in the rotation as a reserve.
