There are reports that Panthers GM Marty Hurney's contract expired June 30, but we hear Hurney is in good standing with the organization and will not be looking for a new employer any time soon. Some league observers say Hurney's job with the Panthers will not be in danger as long as Jerry Richardson is the owner.

A Panthers spokesperson has gone on the record saying Hurney's contract is not an issue, but no details have been offered, since the team's policy is to keep contract information for front-office employees private. There were reports that Hurney received a new contract offer last season, but it's unclear whether he has signed the contract.

Hurney has worked closely with head coach John Fox, who is in the final year of his deal, since 2002, when both were hired to their current posts. We hear that Hurney may have put off signing a new contract out of respect for Fox, who has apparently not been offered a new contract.
