Bengals RB Cedric Benson was arrested and charged with assault with injury Tuesday in Austin, Texas, according to a report on the Web site of the Austin American-Statesman.
According to the Statesman, Austin police allege that Benson punched an employee at a bar on the morning of May 30.
According to the Statesman, Benson is charged with a Class A misdemeanor. If convicted, Benson could face a year in jail, according to the report. Per the Statesman, Benson has posted bail and has been released from police custody.
Benson was arrested twice in a little more than a month in 2008 on alcohol-related charges, which caused the Bears to release him. However, the charges were dropped in both cases. Benson signed with Cincinnati on Sept. 30, 2008 and quickly became the Bengals' starting running back.
Benson, 27, rushed for 1,251 yards and six TDs last season for the Bengals.
