Jets WR Braylon Edwards will not be suspended by the NFL following his January no-contest plea to misdemeanor assault related to an incident outside a Cleveland nightclub, according to

Edwards, 27, was expected to get at least a one-game suspension for punching a man last October while he was still a member of the Browns. Instead, he likely will receive a fine from the league.

While the Jets were in the playoffs last January, Edwards flew to a court appearance in Cleveland, pleading no contest to aggravated disorderly conduct. He received probation, a suspended 180-day jail sentence and a $1,000 fine.

Dealt to New York about a month into last season, Edwards had 35 catches for 541 yards and four touchdowns with the Jets in 12 games. The former Pro Bowler, who has received praise from head coach Rex Ryan for his work this offseason, is expected to lead an improved receiving corps in 2010.
