According to multiple reports, the man shot outside a club that hosted the 30th birthday party for Eagles QB Michael Vick is one of the co-defendants in Vick’s dogfighting case.
Quanis Phillips reportedly was shot outside the Guadalajara nightclub in Virginia Beach, Va., where Vick’s birthday party was taking place. The victim, who is believed to be Phillips, initially refused medical treatment before going to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Phillips is reportedly listed in good condition at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
A spokesman for the Virginia State Police would not say if Vick was present at the club at the time of the shooting, which occurred around 2:10 a.m., but one newspaper report had Vick leaving with Falcons WR Roddy White prior to the shooting.
The Eagles issued a short statement: “We are aware of the incident that occurred in Virginia early this morning and are in the process of gathering all of the facts. Until then, we will not have any comment on this matter.”
Vick is not allowed to have contact with any of the co-defendants in the case. Although it is unclear if Vick and Phillips made contact — various reports have suggested there was an altercation over a birthday cake — Vick’s attorney, Larry Woodward, said the Eagles quarterback was neither involved nor present when the shooting occurred early Friday.
