Although CB Aaron Ross might be disappointed he's not starting on defense, he might get more opportunities to get on the field because of an injury elsewhere. The season-ending torn ACL suffered by RS Domenik Hixon could allow Ross to be one of the team's punt returners this season. Ross returned punts in college and appears to be the early front-runner to handle those duties in the fall. But other Giants could return punts, including Mario Manningham and Sinorice Moss, though Moss is in a real battle to make the final roster. Ross still is the most likely candidate to be the team's nickel back after Terrell Thomas took his starting spot a year ago, but the PR duty could expand Ross' role. The problem with Hixon's injury is that he not only was a punt returner; Hixon also played receiver, was the primary kickoff returner and played on the special-teams coverage units.
