The Giants claimed WR-RS Chris Davis off waivers from Cincinnati on Wednesday.
Davis has experience returning punts and kickoffs, and with top return specialist Domenik Hixon having suffered a season-ending knee injury in minicamp practice last week, Davis may challenge for a leading role on special teams.
Davis was a fourth-round draft choice of the Titans in 2007. In 17 regular-season games in two seasons (2007-08) he caught only seven passes for 68 yards, with a long gain of 21. He averaged 9.1 yards on 33 punt returns and 26.0 yards on six kickoff returns.
Last year he suffered a hamstring injury in the Hall of Fame Game and was waived with an injury settlement before the start of the season. He didn't play all season, although he was briefly on the Titans' roster in early November. The Bengals signed him March 12 and waived him Tuesday.
