Broncos OLB Robert Ayers doesn't appear to have momentum on his side as he prepares for a crucial training camp. After a disappointing rookie season, Ayers, the No. 18 overall pick in 2009, was expected to move into the starting lineup opposite Elvis Dumervil, and the team cleared a spot for him by moving Mario Haggan from outside to inside 'backer. However, Ayers was benched by head coach Josh McDaniels for two days at June minicamp for an undisclosed reason. While McDaniels reported that the situation had been resolved and Ayers was allowed to participate on the final day of minicamp, he was taking reps with the second-team. McDaniels has said Ayers will have to compete with Jarvis Moss, another disappointing former first-rounder, for a starting spot. Prior to the recent incident, Ayers seemed to be progressing well. It would be a horrible sign for the Broncos if Ayers isn't a starter come Week One.
