The Saints traded OT Jammal Brown to the Redskins on Saturday for a 2011 draft pick, Saints executive vice president and general manager Mickey Loomis announced in a team-issued statement on Saturday. Brown signed his one-year restricted free-agent tender from New Orleans on Friday, making the trade possible.

Brown, 29, started 58 games at tackle for the Saints from 2005-08. He missed the '09 season with sports hernia and hip injuries, and unheralded Jermon Bushrod emerged as a capable starter at left tackle in his absence.

The 6-6, 330-pound Brown has started at right and left tackle in his pro career and seems likely to start at one of those positions for Washington, which also figures to start rookie Trent Williams, the No. 4 overall pick, at tackle. Williams, like Brown, attended Oklahoma.

According to ESPN.com, the Redskins will send either their 2011 third- or fourth-round pick to New Orleans to complete the trade. Washington will send one of those picks to Philadelphia per the conditions of the deal that landed QB Donovan McNabb with the Redskins.

If the Redskins trade their third-round pick to the Saints, New Orleans will send its 2011 fifth-round choice to Washington, ESPN.com reported. If Washington trades the fourth-round selection to New Orleans, the Saints will trade either their sixth- or seventh-round selection in the '11 draft to Washington, ESPN.com reported. Also, per the ESPN.com report, the Saints will receive the Redskins' 2012 sixth-round pick if Brown makes the Pro Bowl or plays in 90 percent of Washington's snaps this season.
