Cowboys ILB Williams faces crowded situation

Quick: Who was the Cowboys' top draft pick in 2009? If you said LB Jason Williams, you have a very good recall. That's because injuries and ineffectiveness kept Williams off the field for much of his rookie season. And now, following the drafting of LB Sean Lee in Round Two this year, Williams' place on the roster is in doubt. It's not a highly publicized battle, but Lee already has taken the edge in the nickel and dime LB roles — the ones Bobby Carpenter handled last season — over Williams. That means Williams will be expected to contribute heavily on special teams if he wants to make the final 53-man roster and be active on game days. Also in competition with Williams is Stephen Hodge, a player who was drafted in '09 almost strictly for his special-teams value but is coming off a season-ending knee injury that robbed him a chance to play as a rookie.
