The Giants have lost RS-WR Domenik Hixon for the 2010 season with a torn ACL.
Hixon suffered the knee injury on the team's new surface at the new Meadowlands stadium on Tuesday. Head coach Tom Coughlin was hopeful yesterday that the injury was not serious before the news came in that Hixon's ligament was torn.
Coughlin appeared to suggest that the playing surface was a factor in the injury.
"We're aware of it, we're continuing to work with it, we're asking the turf people to take another look at the field and some of the thoughts we had about shoes and such," Coughlin said, adding: "I think it's pretty much new, just because it's new.
"You have to go over there and go on it before you can make some judgments about it. We'll be better-served now because of the shoes we recommend and so on."
Hixon was the team's primary kick returner last season and also returned a punt for a touchdown. Although he sat fourth or lower on the team's WR depth chart, Hixon has starting experience and has had some big receiving performances off the bench.
