The Chiefs released six players on Monday, including RB Kolby Smith and QB Matt Gutierrez.
Smith, 25, was a fifth-round draft pick of the team in 2007. In three seasons with Kansas City, he played in 27 games, starting nine, and had 162 carries for 540 yards and three touchdowns. He was injured for much of his short career, missing 21 contests over the last two years.
Gutierrez, 26, signed with the Chiefs in '09 after spending his first two seasons in New England. The club's No. 3 QB, he saw action in one game last year, completing his only pass attempt. Tyler Palko likely will take over as K.C.'s third-string signalcaller.
The Chiefs also announced that TE Leroy Banks, DB Andre Jones, OL Nick Landry and OL Jermail Porter have been waived.
